What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a complex process that is difficult to describe in a few words. At its core, mental health treatment is about helping you make changes that will allow you to live a more vital and value-driven life. Psychotherapy is effective for a wide range of life stressors, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic or acute health conditions, and relationship concerns. Research tells us much of the benefit of therapy comes from the “fit” between the therapist and the client. Therefore, it is very important for you to find someone with whom you feel safe and confident. My therapeutic approach emphasizes the treatment relationship, encouraging you to take an active role in your care. I also value the connection between mental and physical health, with careful consideration of the whole person, not just a “problem.” I use evidenced-based treatments, which are those that have been shown through research to be the most effective. I also draw from Interpersonal Neurobiology, using a consilient view of attachment, mindfulness, and neuroscience to inform interventions. Finally, the growth of my patients is of the utmost importance to me, and so I strive to provide concierge services. I do not generally offer long-term, supportive counseling. Instead, most of my patients are seen for a few months and then only on an as-needed follow up basis.
